* Small Group Application *

WHY DO WE DO SMALL GROUPS?

Small groups are uncommon communities (John 17:20-23) applying God’s truth and grace (2 Timothy 3:15-4:2) in everyday life (Titus 3:8). At Redemption Church, we encourage everyone to join a small group. The purpose of these groups is to care for and encourage one another as we study God’s Word, pray together, and spur one another on towards Christlikeness.

WHAT DOES A SMALL GROUP LOOK LIKE?

A typical small group meeting includes Bible study, prayer, mutual accountability (men with men, women with women), and fellowship. The biblical curriculum is common to all groups. Groups usually meet for about two hours in the evening.

WHEN AND WHERE DO GROUPS MEET?

Groups meet three to four times per month in host homes throughout Calgary, Airdrie, and Cochrane. Small groups meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Sundays.

HOW CAN YOU GET CONNECTED?

2. Attend ‘Redemption Welcome‘. This gives you an opportunity to hear about our church, meet our staff, and hear about our doctrine and vision.

3. The ‘Redemption Essentials‘  course is also an important step part of small group involvement. This course outlines how discipleship works at Redemption Church and the mandate for believers to Abide in Christ, Grow in the Church, and Reach the Community.

4. At any time in the process, we encourage you to join a small group. Start by filling out a brief small group application to help our staff get you settled into a group that works best for you.

FAQ:

DO YOU HAVE GROUPS SPECIFIC TO MY AGE AND/OR CIRCUMSTANCES? I.E. SINGLE; SINGLE PARENTS; NEWLYWEDS ETC.

All of our small groups are cross-generational, a balance of male and female, married and singles. We believe this most resembles the early church in Acts. Topics of study are aimed at sanctification and growing disciples. Various season-of-life struggles are opportunities for believers to support and encourage one another. Our desire is to promote unity centered on the gospel and our identity in Christ.

DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH TO BE IN A SMALL GROUP?

Church membership is not required to be a part of a small group. Small group participation, however, is a part of membership.

IS THERE A CHOICE OF STUDY TOPICS IN SMALL GROUP?

The Elders of the church approve the curriculum and all groups study this material at the same time throughout the year. We believe this helps protect our doctrine and promote unity in the church. It also helps facilitate instances when people are relocated to another group.

CAN I BRING MY CHILD TO SMALL GROUP?

We kindly discourage the attendance of children to our groups, not only because of the distraction for the participants but largely because of the distraction for the parents. Note: some groups are able to accommodate children – contact Pastor Michael for more details.

HOW CAN I APPLY TO LEAD A SMALL GROUP?

Potential small group leaders are identified by the present leadership in the church because of their humility, faithfulness, availability, and teachability. No application is necessary. We believe God will call you to ministry by bringing your giftedness to the attention of others. Once identified you would be invited to leadership training and then spend a reasonable period apprenticing under a small group leader. It frequently takes over a year to train a new small group leader.
